SAMA fest in Sweden to screen ‘The Dogs didn’t Sleep Last Night’

Iran-Afghanistan-Poland joint production ‘The Dogs Didn’t Sleep Last Night’ is to vie at the 13th SAMA Int'l Film Festival in Sweden.

Iran-Afghanistan-Poland joint production ‘The Dogs Didn’t Sleep Last Night’ has been selected to compete at the 13th SAMA International Film Festival in Sweden.

Ramin Rasouli’s second directorial debut will mark its 15th international appearance at the 2022 Swedish screening event along with two other Iranian participants ‘A winner’ and ‘Tsunami’.

The story of ‘The Dogs didn’t Sleep Last Night’ takes place in a remote area in Afghanistan.

It tells the story of four different lives, driven by different emotions, each person having struggles which are different, yet intertwined.

“I knew then that the war would never be over, never, as long as somewhere a wound it had inflicted was still bleeding. And I can feel it in every beat within my heart,” comes as the director’s statement at the Fajr Int’l Filmfest.

The long list of global festival screenings of the flick include the 2021 Int’l Film Festival of India, the 2021 Chennai Int’l Film Festival in India, the Kazan Int’l Muslim Film Festival in Russia, the Barcelona Asian Film Festival in Spain, the Sao Paulo Int’l Film Festival in Brazil, the Carthage Int’l Film Festival in Tunisia, the Terni Film Festival in Italy, the Bastau Int’l Film Festival in Kazakhstan, the 2022 Netherlands Film Festival and the Int’l Guwahati Film Festival in India.

The flick is also the recipient of the Interfaith award of the 41st Fajr International Film Festival in Iran and the best foreign language film award of the 2021 Golden Jury International Film Festival in India.

A cast team made of Iranian and Afghan actors have collaborated on this project.

The International Sama Film Festival in Sweden displays and presents the works of filmmakers of Afghanistan, Iran, Tajikistan, Turkey, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and other countries.

The festival also focuses on films by European and American filmmakers about Asia and presents their works of documentaries and long cinematic films.

The 2022 edition of the festival will be held on October 8-9.
